🦑 Squid Masala Recipe
Ingredients:
-
500g squid (cleaned and sliced into rings or small pieces)
-
2 tbsp oil (coconut oil or regular)
-
1 tsp mustard seeds
-
1 sprig curry leaves
-
1 large onion (finely chopped)
-
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
-
2 green chilies (slit)
-
2 tomatoes (chopped)
-
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
-
1 tsp red chili powder (adjust to spice level)
-
1 tsp coriander powder
-
1/2 tsp garam masala
-
Salt to taste
-
Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)
-
Lemon wedges (optional)
Instructions:
-
Clean the squid properly – remove the beak, ink sac, and transparent backbone. Rinse thoroughly.
-
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, let them splutter.
-
Toss in curry leaves, then add chopped onions. Sauté till golden.
-
Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Sauté until raw smell disappears.
-
Add tomatoes and cook till soft and oil starts separating.
-
Add turmeric, chili, and coriander powder. Mix well.
-
Add squid pieces and stir everything together.
-
Cover and cook on medium heat for 6–8 minutes (squid cooks quickly).
-
Once the squid is tender, sprinkle garam masala. Stir and cook for 1–2 minutes.
-
Garnish with fresh coriander and a squeeze of lemon.
🔥 Tips for Perfect Squid Masala:
-
Don’t overcook squid – it turns rubbery. 6–8 minutes is ideal.
-
Marinate briefly with turmeric and a bit of salt before cooking for enhanced flavor.
-
Use fresh squid for best taste. Frozen can work, but thaw it fully.
-
A splash of vinegar or lemon juice can brighten the masala.
-
Add a bit of crushed pepper at the end for an extra kick.
-
Serve hot with rice, chapati, or Kerala parotta!
